MASSANUTTEN RESORT
A PLAN TO REACH SUSTAINABILTY GOALS WITH SOLAR
As part of the resort’s goal to reduce its carbon emissions 15% from 2021 levels by 2025, Massanutten engaged Secure Solar Futures to install solar arrays at three locations. Learn more about the resort’s initiatives to go green.
The Woodstone building is home to the resort’s check-in center, Woodstone Recreation, and VA BBQ and Pizza. This solar array has a capacity of 139 kilowatts and produces 185,000 kWhs of electricity, enough to offset about 15% of the facility’s usage. This is the same as about 527,066 miles driven by an electric car. This array started producing energy in September of 2022.
The Laundry building hosts a solar array with a capacity of 160 kilowatts and produces 192,000 kWhs of electricity, enough to offset 45% of the facility’s usage, and equivalent to powering about 18 homes each year. This array started producing energy in early October of 2022.
The WaterPark ground mount array is projected to start producing energy by early Fall 2023. This array consists of 2,700 panels and will hopefully cover about 23% of the WaterPark’s energy usage.
The resort received solar power with no upfront capital cost through a 25-year power purchase agreement with Secure Solar Futures.
