Secure Futures’ Employee Featured as ‘Advanced Energy Worker’

“A benefit to working in advanced energy is that the industry is constantly changing and continues to make every day a new learning opportunity,” says Secure Futures’ Andrew Yoder of his career in one of Virginia’s hottest industries, clean energy.

Andrew is just one of the more than three million people nationwide who work in solar power and renewables, one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, accounting for more jobs than the building construction industry.

Clean energy has become a major employer in Virginia as well. “Across multiple technologies, more than 81,000 Virginians are employed in the advanced energy sector, nearly as many as are employed in hospitals,” according to research by Advanced Energy Economy, a national advocacy group.

In November of 2017, to give examples of the kind of careers available in clean energy and energy efficiency in Virginia, AEE released a job profile series showcasing Andrew along with eight other advanced energy workers in the state.

Here’s the text of Andrew’s profile:

Andrew has worked for Secure Futures Solar for more than two years. As technical manager, Andrew’s responsibilities vary from overseeing solar asset production to developing new solar projects across the state. His primary role is working with customers using a Solar Feasibility Study to help them achieve energy savings by installing solar. The study analyzes customer energy profiles and models the optimal capacity of solar that can be installed. The analysis shows how solar can be both economical and protect the environment.

Andrew also manages the 16 solar arrays that Secure Futures currently owns and operates across the state of Virginia by performing annual inspections, measuring system performance, and monitoring monthly solar production. He graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with degrees in Economics and Environmental Sustainability.
